Abney Court, Cheadle
80-bed care home in the former walled garden of Abney Hall, a Grade II* listed building.
Client: Care UK / Bruntwood
Application submitted: January 2013
Permission secured: May 2013
Abney Court will be Care UK's premier home in the north west. The 4,140 sq m (44,563 sq ft) building will comprise 80 en-suite bedrooms, communal dining and socialising areas together with facilities including a restaurant, bar, hairdresser and landscaped gardens, private patios and lounges.
The new care home will replace an existing 1980s red brick office building in the hall's walled garden with a more sympathetically designed building. Bruntwood will refurbish Abney Hall for office tenants.
We managed extensive pre-application consultation with Council officers and the local community to secure support for the development. We advised on the full range of planning issues affecting the site including heritage assets, green belt status and nature conservation areas.
We've been working with Bruntwood since 2010 to find a user for the site and are pleased with this result that benefits our client and the local community, and meets a critical UK-wide need for dementia care.
