Planning approval for a new hospital fulfils a 20-year-old goal for the local community and for the NHS.
Built on the site of an outdated facility, Bicester Community Hospital provides 12 in-patient rooms, out-of-hours care, an ambulance base and first-aid unit, together with 14 new homes.
To keep costs low, the timetable was tight. Other challenges included providing justification for the demolition of the existing, listed, building; the mixed-use nature of the scheme and the necessity to divert a public footpath. The positive attitude of the community was a key asset.
The application was unanimously approved.
