We secured consent for a new £226m district general hospital on Green Belt land.
Features such as green roofs and biomass heating make this one of the UK’s most sustainable NHS hospitals and the first to provide all patients with en-suite facilities. A Grade II listed chapel was preserved as an active feature.
As well as being in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the location falls within at least four other protected designations. This required an approach that was design-led, reducing the development’s visual scale.
Permission was secured in 2007, within 16 weeks of our application.
